Diagnostics are an invaluable resourse for assisting a Veterinarian in being able to quickly and accurately diagnose and treat problems that occur. Much of the equipment we have is portable, meaning more accessibility for clients and their horses.

Laboratory

At SHEC we have an in-house laboratory to provide more efficient treatment to our patients. We also utilise external laboratories for any additional testing that may be required.

Pre Purchase

Pre purchase examinations are useful for buyers to help make an informed decision regarding the horse that they are intending to purchase. We offer a standard 2 stage vetting that includes a thorough preliminary clinical examination and trot up with flexion tests. A 5 stage vetting is available upon request. Additional diagnostics such as endoscopy, radiography, ultrasonography, ECG, breeding exam, laboratory testing, drug testing and dental exam under sedation can be requested at an additional cost.

NB# An examination for pre-purchase is conducted on behalf of the buyer and information is confidential between these two parties.

Surgery

Field surgery is a common practice for an ambulatory vet, and is usually performed under standing sedation, or under a short general anaesthesia. Major surgeries will be referred to REC Equine Specialists or the nearest equine hospital. Some common procedures that are performed by SHEC include;
